First CATS Newsletter
Welcome to the new school year! It has been such a pleasure getting to know my new 5th grade class. What a fantastic crew! I anticipate a fun, productive, and memorable year with my C.A.T.S.
Here's a brief rundown of the is weeks'
Language Arts:
We’ve had fun getting into our daily morning routine, which includes grammar and cursive activities, art projects, and all kinds of writing! We’ve written journal entries, poetry and newspaper articles. Your child has created his/her own newsletter illustrating hobbies, heroes, and of course, summer vacation. Ask your child what s/he learned about fellow classmates this week! We’ve also begun a new class novel called The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle. This historical story documents a young girl on a passage from Europe to The New World, and illustrates nautical life on a voyage with exciting adventures, new relationships and even mutiny! Ask your child what s/he predicts will happen during this fateful voyage during the 19th century.
Math: This year, students will be learning the 5th grade math curriculum with Ms. Burgess. (jburgess@reedschools.org) We’ve also been brushing up on our multiplication times tables in class with daily Mad Minutes.
Science: This year we will be rotating through 4 science units with 4 different teachers. The first unit is called Living Systems. Students are learning about the human body, living systems, and organisms.
Miscellaneous:
*There will be no school this Monday, September 1st. (Labor Day)
*Back to School Night is Wednesday, September 3rd from 6:30-8:00pm. Come see what CATS Country is all about!
